Why NASA is planning to crash International Space Station into the Pacific Ocean instead of leaving it in space?

When The International Space Station will crash into the Pacific Ocean?

The International Space Station, orbiting our Earth 400 kilometers above the earth’s surface. It orbits the earth once every one and a half hours since 1998. Now it has a maximum life span of 10 years only. After that, in 2031, the International Space Station (ISS) will be closed. Earlier, the US space agency, NASA, the controller of the International Space Station, had planned to bring the astronauts working there back to Earth.

Why they are planning to crash ISS in 2031 ?

Firstly, according to the American media CNN, due to age, there are many cracks in the body of the space station and it can lose control at any time.

In addition, there is a risk that the safety of astronauts on the space station may be compromised due to the accumulation of space junk in the Earth’s orbit. In this situation, NASA has decided to crash the international space station in 2031.

Second, NASA does not want to leave ISS in Earth’s orbit after shutting down. Because, in that case, the amount of space junk is likely to increase further in the future, there will be a risk of danger to other spacecraft and astronauts. So, NASA scientists have decided to take down the space station out of Earth’s orbit and sink it in a remote area of the Pacific Ocean.

Third, NASA spends approx. ten million dollars every year to operate and maintain the International Space Station. So, the US space agency plans to use the space station commercially to reduce the burden on US taxpayers. There are also proposals to open the door to space tourism and build a film studio.
